Please know that I'm aware that some of you have already made plans to be away on the date of the extra rehearsal (12/1).

Hope you all received the e-mail announcement/poster, please send it on to your friends, &c. (click to download)

My plan for the next 2 rehearsals is to sing everything, including all solo/ensemble work that involves the chorus.  Independent solos/ensemble work will be added at the dress reh. on the 3rd.

We're almost there!

The fall season is now closed to new singers except by director permission.  We encourage you to join us when we start our spring season in early 2009.  Click here to add yourself to our email list for next season.

You are invited to sing with us - no formal experience or auditions are required.  We will all bring with us the most important aspect of this adventure — our love of singing. Add a firm commitment and practice, practice, practice and we’ve got ourselves a show!

Music Selection

  • CANTATA ON "VOM HIMMEL HOCH" by Felix  Mendelssohn.  In this  wonderful piece, the choruses reflect Mendelssohn's huge interest in the music of his idol,   J. S. Bach.  The exuberant opening chorus commences the performance full of energy and beauty.

(Click on the item below to play the opening chorus)

Vom Himmel Hoch, I. Coro, Flamig - Mendelssohn
  • CHRISTMAS ORATORIO by Camille Saint-Saens.  As one of the great treasures of the Christmas repertoire, this work features choral writing of tremendous beauty with absolutely gorgeous solos and ensemble singing.

  • A DAY FOR DANCING by Lloyd Pfautsch.  Dr. Pfautsch,  longtime Professor of Sacred Music and Director of Choral Activities at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, wrote this composition for chorus, soprano, 3 instruments and percussion.

Special Guest Conductor - Erick Brunner

Those of us who enjoyed working with Erick Brunner as a bass and tenor section leader for the Brahms Requiem certainly look forward to him being our guest conductor for this upcoming season and recommend him to all of those who love to sing and desire to improve their singing ability.  You will thoroughly enjoy his style, ability, and knowledge as he leads us through this season.

Erick moved to Taos two years ago from Boulder, Colorado, where he was involved in the music scene for 32 years. He is a graduate of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, with a major in organ and a minor in choral conducting. His graduate work was focused on choral music, working under Robert Shaw, also in Princeton. While in Boulder, Erick served as music director of several large churches there. He founded the chorus for the Colorado Music Festival in the mid 70s and also prepared choruses for the Boulder Bach Festival for a number of years. Erick maintained a large studio for vocal instruction and coaching as well. He is very pleased to be living in New Mexico!

Rehearsal Schedule

Once the season starts, we practice every Monday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 at St. James Episcopal Church located at 208 Camino Santiago in Taos (at the corner of Gusdorf and Camino Santiago).   Your section leader may also schedule additional practice times - check the Rehearsal/Performance Calendar for details

Anyone who can come early and help set up chairs will receive our undying gratitude.

Volunteers graciously provide tea-makings for the breaks.  Please help with donations to defray the cost of cups, napkins, tea, etc.   We encourage all members to volunteer to bring snacks.
